Hot Seat: Aline Simon

In this special series, we honor outstanding HECM originators at leading lender companies. We get the scoop on their personal favorites and learn the secrets to their professional success.

Something nobody knows about me is I met my husband in court.

My favorite vacation was at the Ranch at Rock Creek in Montana. It was a glamping experience with a backdrop of breathtaking views of the wide-open country. Ahh… heaven!

My celebrity crush is Derek Jeter. (Well, just look at him!)

My first car was a tornado red Volkswagen Cabriolet.

My most embarrassing moment was singing karaoke to “Hit Me Baby One More Time,” with dance moves and all.

My favorite movie is Forrest Gump. The message is powerful: No matter what, if you set your mind to do something, anything can be accomplished!

I never miss an episode of Dateline, Survivor or The Big Bang Theory.

I can’t live without love, my husband and two kids, raw cashews, laughter, sleep, concealer, my iPhone 6, and shopping.

When I was a kid I covered my entire face in red lipstick. No idea why.

My parents taught me that being kind is more important than being right!

My favorite time of the day is sunrise because I am one of those people who thinks I will accomplish something if I just get up early enough.

My iPod go-to is rather eclectic: Coldplay, Michael Jackson, U2, Alicia Keys, Ed Sheeran, Adele, Queen, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Imagine Dragons…

I’ve never been skydiving. I am deathly afraid of heights.

The worst purchase I’ve ever made was a food dehydrator (from one of those midnight infomercials that got me in a moment of boredom).

The best purchase I’ve ever made was both my Labradors, Mel and Roy.

My favorite book is Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy—it’s enthralling, inspiring and ultimately breaks your heart.

For success I have sacrificed time. I’ve learned it’s not about having enough time, but about using your time wisely.

The best advice I could give a fellow HECM originator would be to be a good listener!

I try to connect with potential clients by empathizing and sympathizing.

My biggest sales tip is to learn everything you can about your business. Stay informed; knowledge is powerful. Become the trusted expert.

I love my job because you can see how impactful this financial tool can be for our seniors. It is a complete retirement game-changer for the majority of them.

The most challenging part of my job is dispelling all the misconceptions and preconceptions that exist out there.

I find my work rewarding because it genuinely gives people a new lease on life. It helps their ideas of what they thought retirement life would be come to fruition.

To be successful in selling HECM loans you need to differentiate yourself from your competitors in a positive way.

The most important thing seniors should understand about reverse mortgages is that it is a safe and secure financial tool that allows one to convert a portion of their home value into tax-free money! It’s a solution to help seniors achieve their short- and long-term economic goals.
