FHA Appoints New Deputy Assistant Secretary of Single Family Housing

The Federal Housing Administration (FHA) this week announced the appointment of Joseph M. (Joe) Gormley as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Office of Single Family Housing, effective as of January 21. Gormley’s appointment comes after the departure of his predecessor Gisele Roget late last year, who went on to become Deputy Chief of Staff and Director of External Affairs and Communications at the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA).

Gormley arrives in his new position with a substantive working history in housing policy and financial services. He joined FHA and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in 2017, and previously served as Chief of Staff to the Assistant Secretary for Housing and Federal Housing Commissioner Brian D. Montgomery, placing him as the principal advisor to Montgomery and other senior HUD leaders on policy, priority initiatives, strategic planning and resource management.

Before beginning work for the federal government, Gormley served as assistant vice president and regulatory counsel at the Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA), acting as policy lead on legal and regulatory issues including regulations and consumer financial protection laws.

Gormley has also served as associate regulatory counsel for the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA), and worked for the Office of Fraud Detection and Market Intelligence at the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA).

Gormley is a graduate of Boston College and received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
