High Ranking HUD Official to Address Reverse Mortgage Industry Next Week

A top official from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Office of Single Family Housing has been announced as a speaker at the National Reverse Mortgage Lenders Association (NRMLA) Annual Meeting & Expo next week.

This will be the first time Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary (DAS), Robert Mulderig of HUD, will address the reverse mortgage industry. He will speak on Tuesday November 15, at 10:45am at the Swissotel in Chicago, according to a press release issued Wednesday by NRMLA.

“We welcome Acting DAS Mulderig to our meeting and look forward to his presentation,” Peter Bell, president and CEO of NRMLA, said in the release. “This is an important time for the HECM program and we appreciate HUD’s leadership as the industry navigates new policy changes made to ensure the long-term health of FHA’s insurance fund.”

At NRMLA, Mulderig is just one key HUD staff, among several others, who is responsible for the oversight and operations of the HECM program. He will make his remarks following a panel discussion by HUD’s Senior Policy Advisor Karin Hill, Housing Program Policy Specialist Erica Jessup, Policy Analyst Phil Caulfield and Program Director Kasey Watson.

From HUD’s Office of Housing Counseling, John Olmsted, will be a panelist in a separate session that will cover HECM counseling.

Other sessions at the NRMLA conference will include presentations from Manager of Health and Aging Resources for the Atlanta Regional Commission Kathryn Lawler and Northwestern University’s Dr. Lee Lindquist.
