Top 10 Best Places to Retire 2015

Sunny cities lead the pack for the best places to retire, according to a recent ranking of the best places to live after leaving the workforce. As 10,000 baby boomers turn 65 every day, a key consideration in retirement and financial planning is where to live and why. 

Livability.com, an online resource for researching communities, recently released its annual list of the best places to retire in the United States, taking into consideration affordable health care services, presence of other seniors, community engagement, crime rates and climate and other outdoor activities.

“As the aging population grows and diversifies, so will their ideas of ideal retirement,” says Matt Carmichael, Livability.com editor. “We wanted out Best Places to Retire to reflect the breadth of options today’s active seniors are considering.”

Here are the top 10 best places to retire in 2015:

1. Santa Barbara, California

2. Sarasota, Florida

3. Plano, Texas

4. Tacoma, Washington

5. Carson City, Nevada

6. Hillsboro, Oregon

7. Lincoln, Nebraska

8. Charlottesville, Virginia

9. Rapid City, South Dakota

10. Scottsdale, Arizona

Livability.com determined its list by using data from several sources, including the U.S. Census Bureau, Medicare, Esri, NOAA, Walk Score, the EPA.

A few of the picks on the list reflect areas with high reverse mortgage volume. Florida, Texas, Arizona and California all are among the leaders of home equity conversion mortgage (HECM) growth.
