Trump Considers Ben Carson as Possible HUD Secretary

There have been various rumors as to who will become the next Secretary for the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) under the Trump Administration, and now another name has emerged as a possible appointee.

Tuesday on Twitter, President-Elect Donald Trump tweeted that he is “seriously considering” Dr. Ben Carson as the next “head of HUD.”

It is unclear if Carson, the retired neurosurgeon who contended against Trump as a Republican presidential nominee this year, will take the job, considering comments he made earlier this month about serving in another Cabinet position under the Trump Administration.

Last week, Carson’s close friend and business manager Armstrong Williams told The Hill that Carson was not interested in serving as Secretary of Health and Human Services.

“Dr. Carson feels he has no government experience, he’s never run a federal agency,” Armstrong told The Hill. “The last thing he would want to do was take a position that could cripple the presidency.”

Rather than serve in the Administration directly, Carson would rather only advise the president-elect unofficially, according to Williams.

A variety of names have been floated as possibly assuming the role of HUD Secretary in the weeks since Trump was awarded the U.S. Presidency. Among them include former Assistant HUD Secretary and FHA Commissioner Brian Montgomery, who currently serves as vice chairman of The Collingwood Group.

Other rumored appointees also include former New York Congressman Rick Lazio (R-NY), as well as Pam Patenaude, president of the J. Ronald Terwilliger Foundation for Housing America’s Families.
