Caliber’s Sean Harding on inclusivity and diversity in the workplace
Today’s HousingWire Daily features the season finale of Honest Conversations, a miniseries on minority homeownership hosted by HousingWire Digital Media Manager Alcynna Lloyd. In this episode, Lloyd interviews Sean Harding, the chief human resources officer at Caliber Home Loans, on how the company maintains an inclusive and diverse workplace.
Here is a small preview of the interview, which has been lightly edited for length and clarity:
Alcynna Lloyd: What are some of the ways you maintain an inclusive and diverse working environment for employees at Caliber?
Sean Harding: I’ll start off by just making a clear statement, Caliber is committed to diversity and inclusion. If I was a listener to this podcast, I would ask “how do you put your money where your mouth is?” For us, it all starts at the top with Sanjiv Das, our CEO, who is a huge catalyst for change. He’s a big advocate in this space and he sets the tone at the top, so on a daily basis, we’re encouraged to pursue a companywide strategy that we’ve agreed to as a leadership team.
A lot of people probably don’t know this, even internally, but as a leadership team, we spend a couple of hours each month really just holding ourselves accountable. In fact, the executive team has fully bought into this strategy and we meet every quarter to talk about progress and initiatives, what’s working, what’s not, and that really helps us keep our commitments to each other, and most importantly, to our employees. I feel my role as the lead HR leader is really to connect all the dots across the company, and I’m really proud of the successes we’ve had. It’s not always perfect, but the level of engagement from our employees, the feedback we receive, and the support we garnered from our employees has been awesome. And for us, it’s extremely important that our employee base represents the diverse communities that we serve.
