In 2023, Wes Horbatuck, a 14-year mortgage marketing veteran, joined his fellow former Black Knight executives to launch Dark Matter Technologies (Dark Matter), a new venture spun out from Black Knight promising to operate “with the nimble nature of a startup and the disciplined maturity of one of the industry’s leading providers.” Horbatuck is the mastermind behind Dark Matter’s bold new look and messaging, positioning the company to make good on its promise to revolutionize the mortgage origination business by supporting, growing and aggressively innovating new and existing products including its popular AIVA artificial intelligence solution and the Empower loan origination system (LOS). In less than a year, the new company can document success through a growing share of voice or SOV (a measure of brand visibility), rising customer numbers, and its first-ever Dark Matter user conference that attracted a capacity crowd of 250.
Horbatuck has grown Dark Matter’s marketing and brand identity over the past months to go toe-to-toe with other well-established fintech brands in the industry, and has gained a full 27 percent SOV in its targeted publications, surpassed by only one of its ten top competitors. The new website launched in March 2024 has seen a 6% increase in traffic overall and 21 percent increase in engaged traffic. For social media, there’s been a 23% increase in visitors to Dark Matter’s platforms and 31% increase in LinkedIn followers.
