With 35 years in the industry and 21 years in leadership at American Pacific Mortgage, Bill Lowman is a distinguished leader known for his advocacy and lobbying work on behalf of the industry, his leadership, and most recently his work transitioning APM to an employee-owned company in 2021.

Throughout his career, Lowman has been a champion for inclusivity and community at APM and beyond, founding APMCares to enhance the social responsibility of the company and to give back to employees in times of need. Lowman’s passion, and likely his legacy, is his advocacy work. In addition to his role as chairman of APM, he serves on the MBA Board of Directors, MBA Residential Board of Governors, and the California MBA. His leadership and influence extend to lobbying efforts aimed at reforming and reshaping harmful laws and practices that are detrimental to the industry as a whole. His most recent efforts include lobbying to curb the abusive use of trigger leads and addressing critical issues such as affordable housing and housing shortages.

His influence extends to advisory roles such as the ICE Mortgage Technology Executive Advisory Board, for which he was honored to participate in ringing the closing bell at the NYSE last October. There’s no doubt that Lowman’s advocacy work will be felt for years to come, making him a standout leader in the mortgage and housing industries. As chairman of American Pacific Mortgage, Lowman has advanced the company’s strategic expansion initiatives, notably leading APM’s acquisition strategy aimed at driving substantial growth throughout 2024 and 2025.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Read the room and know your audience. This invaluable piece of advice is something I’ve carried with me throughout my career — from the boardroom to the speaker podium, and in one-on-one interactions and company dealings, I always start by reading the room and getting the pulse of the audience.
