Michele Evans leads Fannie Mae’s Multifamily division, a leading source of financing and securitization for quality rental housing in the United States. Evans ensures that Fannie Mae is positioned to serve a wide spectrum of the multifamily market, including conventional, rent-restricted, seniors housing, student housing, cooperatives and manufactured housing communities. Balancing safety and soundness, she manages a $475 billion book of business as well as the $4 billion net equity investments through the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit program. Evans and her team are setting industry standards and transforming the housing finance sector by developing creative solutions to address some of the most complex housing challenges.
A valued member of the executive leadership team, Evans has been with Fannie Mae for more than 30 years and held various roles within the organization before being promoted to her current position as executive vice president and head of multifamily. Evans is a longstanding member of Fannie Mae’s Management Committee and is a trusted leader within the organization and with industry partners. Evans continues to drive change and innovation while building strong relationships with Fannie Mae’s Multifamily customers. Through changing — and sometimes volatile — market conditions, Evans offers exceptional leadership. This includes safely and soundly managing the Multifamily business. As of the end of 2023, Fannie Mae owned or guaranteed approximately one-fifth of multifamily mortgage debt outstanding in the United States.
